Jason Reitman will now enter the animation field. Reitman, director of great works such as Juno, will join Dreamwork’s production of Beekle as a director. Beekle will adapt Dan Santat’s work The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend published by Hachette. Expectedly, no firm dates on the release or production of the film, but looking at the schedule it at least won’t be out until 2019 as Dreamworks has a slate of other movies coming before then.
In the press statement, Reitman talked about the opportunity of joining the film:
“I was book shopping with my daughter, when a little tooth-shaped character in a paper crown stole our heart. His name was Beekle and I’m honored to now be adapting Santat’s charming story into a feature film. I’m particularly proud to be working with DreamWorks Animation, makers of Kung Fu Panda, the first film my daughter ever saw on the big screen.”
